The Epipremnum pinnatum albo is used to grow having large, glossy, heart-shaped, dark green leaves. There are some cultivars having narrow, smooth-edged leaves, and there are some that have wide, deeply serrated edges.
The larger varieties of the plant are used to grow leaves that reach upto 3 feet long and if you grow them outdoors they are used to grow upto 60 feet tall. Most of gardeners are used to growing vines that are able to grow upto 6 feet long and treat them as good plants for hanging baskets. There are some varieties that are toxic to dogs and cats so you need to make sure which plant you are planting and avoid the pets getting ingested into any part.
Origin and Habitat:
The Epipremnum Pinnatum Albo Variegated is a houseplant that originated from lush rainforests of Southeast Asia which are used to climb trees and let the vines trailing and large, beautiful patterned leaves use to hang downward.
Appearance:
They are mostly wanted due to having unique variegation. It does have a leaf which is a mix of green and creamy white colors that creates a striking contrast. The plant does have glossy finish foliage that gives a touch of elegance in the place where you plant them.
Care and requirements:
The following are some basic requirements that you need to provide:
Light:
To grow the plant you need to provide partial shade or partial sun. according to me, the best light conditions are the bright but indirect sun. you can place the plant to the side of a window so that it gets good sun exposure.
There are some varieties that you need to provide a bit more light which you can see after the leaves of the plant stretch a little more when they get into a more sunnier spot of the room. Make sure to avoid them to get in touch with too much sun as it can dry the plant or scorch the leaves.
Soil:
They need to grow in rich soil which is slightly acidic and has a good amount of organic matter that you can add into a potting mix that will result in well-draining soil. Need to avoid the plants from Sandy or clay soils which is not good for the plants. You need to maintain drainage holes in the containers.
Water:
You need to water Epipremnum pinnatum albo one time in a week which is sufficient for the plant. You need to be very careful before watering and you need to check if the soil surface is dry. To water the plant you need to use lukewarm water until soil top layer of the soil surface is soaked. You need to change the watering schedule in winter because at that time the plants are used to growing slowly so they need less water.
Temperature and Humidity:
You need to maintain the temperature and humidity for growing them between 65-75 degrees. During summer if you move the plant to an outdoor you need to place them in a partial shade area so that they are protected from getting too hot. The Epipremnum pinnatum albo is a tropical vine that you need to maintain the right amount of humidity. During winter in case your plant is in a dry area, you need to place it with a dish of pebbles having water which will help in maintaining the air moist around it.
Fertilizer:
To grow plants you don’t need much fertilizer rather you can use an essential liquid water-soluble fertilizer that is diluted half the amount of water mainly in the growing season of the plant. The right time for adding fertilizer to the plant is every two weeks from March but during winter you need to reduce the fertilizing amount to at least one month.
Propagating Epipremnum Pinnatum:
The following are basic steps you need to go through to propagate Epipremnum Pinnatum albo:
- To propagate the plant you need to cut the stem and also need a couple of leaves on the stem then make a division lengthwise. After splitting you need to place them in water.
- You need to make sure that there is a leaf-attached knot on the stem so that the roots can form on it.
- Make sure to change the water when it gets dirty and need to locate the pot or container in a place where it gets indirect sunlight.
- After some days you will see roots forming you can plant by cutting a good moist potting medium.
Repotting Epipremnum Pinnatum:
You need to repot the plant in a pot that is larger than a past container so that the roots get space to spread in the pot. Shifting the plant into another container once the plant gets larger in size. I suggest you lay the plant on the side of the plant so that you can prepare a new container for planting them. Before shifting it to a larger container you need to shake old soil from the roots and provide the roots with new potting soil. Place the plant into a larger container after which you need to hold it in place by turning it back upright. After repotting you need to water the plant once which will help the plant to recover from the process of transplanting.
